GOTSGlobal Organic Textile Standard (GOTS), are the global accreditations Organic Bed Threads aligns with in bed linen production in India.

I stepped up as a designer, and you can too when you buy my ethical duvet covers. Our combined stance - mine and yours - supports the goals of a future free from chemicals, free from poverty and free from unfair trade.

Your conscious purchase ensures producers earn fair trade wages and work in safe environments. We in the West aspire for such 'obvious' God-given benefits, Organic Bed Threads takes the 'obvious' out of the equation, for there is massive assumption of what goes on on home turf, occurs in the East or in developing countries too; not so!

I am mightily encouraged by what can be achieved for the health of the planet when producing and buying with intent. Not just for apparel but fashion in the home - a place that houses the largest sized textiles. Home decor that gives back, now there's a novel idea!

Being part of something bigger means preservation of:

How fantastic is that via a simple purchase! World bed creations, made by communities who care, to be purchased by those who care. Do you? If so, #bethechange in your home, take a step in the right direction by visiting our eShop today. Together, lets make ethical bed fashion the next big thing.

Honouring Handmade

on Saturday, 17 December 2016.

Handmade woodblock carverDo you recall that iconic 1988 cult film 'Cocktail' when the characters of Tom Cruise and Elizabeth Shu are talking on the deck of a Jamaican bar, he lazily twirls his cocktail umbrella in his hands and idly comments to her...

"Do you know there is a guy who makes these, but still he gets up in the morning and he kisses his wife and he goes to his drink umbrella factory and whips up ten billion of these a year, the guy's a millionaire" ... and their conversation continues about the people who make other small restaurant table items like ashtrays, tooth picks and their wrappers and even the plastic ends of shoelaces. I realise I have taken the character's intended meaningful out of context, for all his character wanted was make a motza, but this scene grab is so poignant in terms of reflecting on, respecting and honouring the handmade process.

Documentaries - Textile Ethics Questioned

on Tuesday, 29 November 2016.

documentaryHelping to spread the unjustness that is occuring in the textile industry of developing countries, via a growing list of documentaries worth watching. Ethical questions are bought to stark reality in terms of the triple bottom line of companies, chemical use, crude and forced labour and unearthing the inhumane treatment that does not support fair trade....

Organic Bed Threads only engages in fair trade and social and environmental textile produciton practices. Our passion is fuelled by respecting creative techniques and we are driven by humanitarian intent at every step. Our own moving story is The Journey Of The Humble Cotton Boll(2.48mins).

From seed to shelf, Organic Bed Threads leaves only a pinkie toe, not a whole footprint, on the planet. We bring your attention to these documentaries because we believe consumers need to be informed on how they fuel these activities via their purchasing power. The greater self education on how we are disrespecting people and planet, with hope, will prick our conscience and convert our buying habits to healthier ones. Just because we do not know the many hands and faces who make our products does not mean that their lives are any less of value than ours.

Bed Linen Test

BedLinenTestWeb7 bed linen aspects to help you sleep soundly at night.

1. There are a lot of human hands involved in the making of our bedlinen - #handmade
Sure, you can't beat the speed and efficiency of modern machinery used by many of the larger bedding companies out there, but as with so many other things in life, slower is sometimes simply better. While many of our competitors focus on volume and economy, our focus is on quality and craftsmanship. Organic Bed Threads duvet covers are made by highly-skilled crafts people in India, each of whom not only bring years of experience and knowledge to their jobs, but also a passion for creating only the best work by hand. Encouraging handmade techniques on the textile world stage is so culturally important.
