What's Percale?
Percale finish is a closely woven plain weave fabric, often used for bed linen. The term describes the weave of the fabric, not the content, so percale could be a blend of 50% cotton and 50% polyester, 100% cotton, or a blend of other fabrics in any ratio. A percale fabric:
- Weave has a thread count of about 200 or higher, and is noticeably tighter than the standard type of weave used for bed linen.
- It has a medium weight
- Is firm and smooth with no gloss
- Washes very well
- It is made from both carded and combed yarns.
All our cotton fabrics are certified by the Global Organic Textile Standard (GOTS)
- Because of transparent ethical processes the base fabric has a premium value.
- The durability of the cotton is strong and weighty, without being heavy.
- The 200TC cotton has a fresh crispness that provides a sense of newness about the product after every wash.
- The weight integrity is as superior to higher threads counts of 400-1000 TC. Washing the fabric means it creases more, due to the reduced chemical aids that make ironing easy. Refer to our Fabric Care Instructions.
